ClavierVirtuel.com is designed, developed and maintained by Abdelmounaim Akadid, a web developer at Rocket Web, the agency that publishes the site.
The author
A computer engineer by training, Abdelmounaim Akadid has spent several years building front-end and back-end web applications. Accessibility and language tools have a particular place in his work, and that is where ClavierVirtuel.com came from: a site for people who need to write in a language their physical keyboard does not carry.
The publisher
The site is published and maintained by Rocket Web, a web agency reachable at www.rocketweb.ma. Rocket Web handles hosting, technical maintenance and the platform's ongoing development.
How the keyboards are built
Every layout has its own data file describing all three layers of each key — the base character, the character with Shift, and the character with AltGr — following the standard national layout for the language concerned. The site currently covers 39 keyboard layouts, from French AZERTY to Russian ЙЦУКЕН, along with Arabic, Thai, Korean Hangul, Amazigh Tifinagh and a palette of mathematical symbols.
Two input modes complete the traditional layouts: transliteration for Arabic, which converts text typed on a Latin keyboard as you go, and pinyin input for Chinese, with a suggestion bar.
How the pages are verified
The reference tables published under each keyboard — key mapping, Unicode range, characters reachable with AltGr — are generated from the layout files themselves. What a page documents and what its keyboard types can therefore never drift apart: change a key, and the page changes with it.
The hand-written text — frequently asked questions, blog guides, character sheets — is written and reviewed by the author, then translated into the site's 16 interface languages. On top of that sit 14 in-depth guides on the history and practice of text input, and more than 870 character pages documenting code point, encodings and input methods.
Privacy
The text you type stays in your browser. It is never transmitted, stored or analysed by the site.
